Description

Friday 26th February 2021 – 1:00pm – 3:00pm

Overview:

The ChatterBug vocabulary approach is based on a strong theoretical model and uses the ‘assess, plan, do, review’ approach to teaching strategies to help children become effective word learners. The framework can be used as part of a whole class approach for all children or taught in small groups. The framework can also be used for pre-teaching vocabulary. This hands on training provides an overview of the theory of vocabulary learning and how to implement this approach.

If children with language difficulties do not receive the input they require, this can contribute to other difficulties. For example, they may struggle to access the curriculum, achieve their academic potential and participate in class if they have gaps in their vocabulary. They may also struggle to produce narratives (written and oral) which will impact on the child’s ability to convey their ideas in conversation, such as talking about events or re-telling stories like “what they did at the weekend” or “what happened in the playground.”
