Chatterbug Speech and Language Therapy Service has been commissioned by NELC  to provide services for children, parents/carers and professionals across North Lincolnshire Community. We will work alongside the NLAG Speech and Language Therapy Service to provide workshops, assessments, intervention, and training across two distinct projects, Early Communication Builders (ECB) and Mastering Communication Programme (MCP).

Our objective is to empower children and young people by providing accessible, high-quality Speech and Language Therapy services in North East Lincolnshire that foster communication, confidence, and independence. Through innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to making a difference, we strive to support families, schools, and communities across the UK. By integrating technology and expertise, we aim to reduce barriers to speech and language support, ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Samantha Anderson: Speech and Language Therapist

Hi, I am Sam Anderson, a Speech and Language Therapist from Chatterbug. I was born and raised in NEL, specifically Grimsby, and I am passionate about making a difference to the children in the area because it has been mine, and my families’ area for generations. I want to make sure the service that Grimsby and NEL receives is effective, high-quality and meets the needs of the families we support.

My name is Renata, and I have been a Senior Speech and Language Therapist at Chatterbug since 2020. I am deeply aligned with the values that Chatterbug and our team uphold, our shared commitment to empowering children and families is at the heart of everything we do, regardless of our roles within the organisation.

I am excited for our team to bring this same passion and dedication to supporting children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs in North East Lincolnshire (NEL). This project presents a valuable opportunity to equip children and families in the NEL area with the tools and support they need to reach their fullest potential.

Our services in NEL

We are delighted to provide two essential services in North East Lincolnshire, we have been commissioned to deliver two distinctive services:

Early Communication Builders (ECB)
  • Families of all children and young people resident in North East Lincolnshire aged 0-5 years, practitioners, health visitors and Early Years educators.
  • Parent and practitioner training.
  • Monthly face-to-face or virtual drop-in clinics
  • Termly network / link meetings 

Who can access our ECB  Services:

Will provide a comprehensive range of services to support children’s speech, language, and communication development at both universal and targeted levels. These services will actively involve practitioners, educators, and parents across North East Lincolnshire.

Our goal is to:

  • Collaborate with early years practitioners, including childminders, daycare providers, and parents, to create communication-rich environments that support every child’s development.
  • Strengthen referral pathways by working in close partnership with Health Visitors and Family Hubs, ensuring children receive the appropriate level of care and intervention when needed.
  • Build the knowledge, skills, and confidence of staff and parents/carers, enhancing school readiness and contributing to improved long-term outcomes for young children throughout North East Lincolnshire.

We will do this by providing the following services:

  • Parent and practitioner training is delivered via our online learning platform, Chatterbug Academy, equipping families and early years professionals with practical strategies to support children’s language development.
  • Monthly face-to-face or virtual drop-in clinics offer tailored advice and guidance to families with children aged 0–5 around speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Termly network meetings provide additional training and peer support for practitioners, with a focus on effectively implementing the WellComm approach.
  • Termly link meetings offer bespoke support and guidance for practitioners, complemented by communication audits to help create and maintain communication-friendly environments.
Mastering Communication Programme (MCP)
  • Speech and language assessment for children and young people aged 5-18 with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) or those undergoing assessment.
  • Provide review/assessment and intervention and support for children with an EHCP
  • Access to a range of courses to help staff in supporting a wide range of Speech, Language, and Communication Needs through our Chatterbug Academy.

Who can access our  MCP Services:

  • is designed to provide comprehensive speech and language assessment, therapy, and support for children and young people aged 5-18 with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) or those undergoing assessment.
  • Our programme offers evidence-based individual and group interventions, tailored to meet the specific needs of each child. Therapy will be delivered within educational settings, ensuring accessibility and continuity of support.
  • Additionally, we will provide guidance and training for those interacting with these pupils, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for their communication development.

  • Provide review/assessment and intervention and support for children with an EHCP, including coaching and modeling for schools staff
  • Collaborate with education settings to maintain consistent therapeutic plan delivery throughout the school day.
  • Support parents and carers through multiple communication channels, helping them build confidence in supporting their child beyond therapy sessions.
  • Deliver timely EHCP assessments, including reports to support accurate diagnoses and intervention planning.
  • Monthly Link meetings for Schools to access additional support and guidance for children with EHCPs
  • Access to a range of courses to help staff in supporting a wide range of Speech, Language, and Communication Needs
  • Termly Network meetings to provide opportunities to share ideas with colleagues and receive additional training

Meet the team in NEL

Referral Process

Referrals can be made via our secure electronic system, OEPR (Octopus Enhance Patient Record).

For the ECB programme, referrals can be made by Health Visitors, Family Hub staff, and Early Years settings, including Public Health Nurses and Community Health Practitioners. Children scoring RED on the Wellcomm/3+ years with Speech and language Needs can be referred to NLAG Speech and Language Therapy Services.

Parents/carers of under 5s wanting advice and guidance to support their child’s communication development can attend one of our face to face or virtual drop in clinics. Contact your local Family Hub or email [email protected] to request the drop-in schedule.

For the Mastering Communication Programme (MCP), referrals can be made for children with EHCP by education staff and clinical staff, including SALTs, Health Visitors, School Nursing teams, and Youth Justice workers.
