Case Study: Speech Sound Disorder impacting Interaction and Relationship-Building

In the interest of safeguarding, this child has been referred to as ‘Joseph’ throughout the case study.

Background

Joseph faced challenges in interaction and relationship-building, which resulted in difficulties articulating thoughts clearly and diminished his engagement and motivation to speak. These challenges, spanning social interactions and emotional expression, not only hindered Joseph’s ability to communicate effectively but also contributed to feelings of frustration and self-doubt. Despite these obstacles, Joseph’s journey with Chatterbug offered tailored interventions and personalised support, igniting a transformative path toward overcoming communication barriers and unlocking his full potential.

How did Chatterbug help?

After Joseph received a diagnosis of Speech Sound Disorder, he embarked on a transformative journey of personalised therapy sessions at Chatterbug. These 1:1 sessions provided Joseph with a supportive environment where he could explore and address his specific communication challenges. Under the expert guidance of his therapist, Joseph engaged in a variety of targeted techniques meticulously tailored to his unique needs.

Throughout his therapy journey, Joseph delved into an array of innovative strategies designed to enhance his speech sound production and overall communication skills. Techniques such as syllable clapping and sound identification exercises were expertly utilised to target areas of difficulty and facilitate Joseph’s progress.

The 1:1 nature of these sessions allowed for individualised attention and focused intervention, ensuring that Joseph received the tailored support necessary for his development.
